Frequently asked questions

What makes hard would you rather questions so tough?

Both options carry a real cost or a real reward, so neither one wins on obvious grounds. You have to weigh values like comfort, freedom, loyalty or ambition, and that weighing is where the interesting conversation comes from.

Can I run this as a timed debate?

Yes. Split the group into two sides, give each side one minute to argue, then let everyone vote. A timer keeps things moving and stops one loud voice from taking over the whole round.

Is it okay to refuse to choose?

Set a house rule first. A common approach is one pass per player per game, after which they must commit. Refusing is allowed, but explaining why neither option works can be just as revealing as a pick.

What age is this list suited to?

The questions are written for teens and up. Some touch on tough tradeoffs that younger kids may find confusing rather than fun. For a mixed age group, start with the crazy questions and work up.

Can teachers use these in class?

They make good discussion starters for ethics, writing or debate lessons. Ask students to write a short paragraph defending their answer, then pair them with someone who chose the other side to compare reasoning.
